We built RouteHold to run reliably on old phones.

We test using a Samsung Galaxy Xcover Pro (released in 2020) and an iPhone 11 (released in 2019) and it runs perfectly well on those devices.

RouteHold has a built-in memory manager that keeps its usage to no more than a tenth of your phone's available memory, and we regularly run multi-day simulated ride tests to make sure it stays stable.

Yes.

Make sure you mark your evening stops as true waypoints (not shaping points) in your mapping app. eg. in MyrouteApp mark them as Via Points.

Import your route into RouteHold, and then make each of your overnight stops a Stop Point. Now ride your route.

When you reach your overnight stop, exit RouteHold. the next morning when you are ready to ride your route, just re-open the route and click 'Ride Now' - RouteHold will automatically navigate you to the point on your roue that is closest to you, and will restart route navigation from there.

Yes.

When you make a route offline, RouteHold downloads the route, the sections of map around the route, and the turn by turn navigation instructions to your phone. From that point on, all it needs is a GPS signal. You do lose some functionality though:

'Find my nearest fuel' will not work as it relies on a data connection.

'Navigate back to my route' will work partially: If you go off route you will see a red line directing you back to your route, but the map will disappear if you move more than 750 metres from your route and turn by turn directions will stop once you are more than 3 kilometres from your route. You will still be able to follow the red line back to your route, and once you get within 3 kilometres of your route turn directions will resume, with the map re-appearing once you get within 750 metres.

The last point of the route is treated as a Stop Point - Rather than ending the navigation as you ride past your route end, RouteHold will keep directing you back to it until you tell it to stop navigation.

Yes. Plan your route by adding your destinations in Google Maps, tap the Share / Copy link icon (or copy the URL from your browser), and paste it into RouteHold. RouteHold reads your destinations and builds the route for you.

A Google Maps link only includes the waypoints, not the road-by-road line, so this is one case where RouteHold builds the route rather than following it faithfully. It rebuilds the line along the roads, so it may differ slightly from Google's. For an exact line, import a GPX with its track instead.

When you imported your route into RouteHold, it warned you 'This track has gaps. Allow RouteHold to route between them?'

This is because there are not enough track points in some route sections for RouteHold to build the route exactly. When you selected 'Route between' RouteHold filled in the gaps. Usually this has no effect on the route, but the whole point of RouteHold is that it attempts to ride the exact route that you gave it, so it highlights the areas where it 'filled in the gaps' with a dotted blue line rather than a solid one.

If you want to prevent the 'this route has gaps' error, try either increasing the track density in your mapping app (if it has that option), or place waypoints in the sections RouteHold highlighted so that your mapping app fills in the gaps.

The overview map is meant to help you decide 'Should I ride this route now'. Once you start riding the route, the whole point of RouteHold is that it follows the route faithfully and does not divert. Live traffic on route would not make sense in this situation, and in any case it would not be available in offline mode.

If you are mid-route and you want a view of the traffic right now, exit the navigation screen, re-enter the map overview screen and press 'Cheeck Traffic', then when you are ready to set off, press 'Ride Route' and RouteHold will continue following the route from your current location.

Turn by turn directions are saved to your device when you make a route available offline. If you make a route available offline, and then go into settings and change from metric to imperial (or imperial to metric), the saved routes are not altered. - you will need to delete and then re-save your routes to change the voiceovers.

RouteHold finds the closest petrol station along your route that is likely to be open at the time you are estimated to get there.

Along your route: If it can't find a petrol station along your route that is less than 15 miles away, it will broaden the search to find one that is closest to you (so you may be riding off route to get to it).

Opening times: RouteHold uses a web search to look up the petrol station's opening times, and then works out what time you are likely to arrive if you start riding now. - Note that we can't be held responsible for incorrect opening times as we don't own the data.
